Club History
The Conewago Carvers was founded in March 1992, by Doug Gabel. Doug wanted to start a club in the York-Adams area and sent letters to prospective wood carving members. The first meeting was held on March 14, 1992. There were 21 people who attended this meeting and the club was founded with 25 charter members. A set of by-laws were written and the club was established as a non-profit organization. The club name Conewago Carvers was taken from the Conewago Creek that runs through East Berlin and the canoe was adopted as the club logo. The first show was held in October 1993 with Dan Williams as the featured carver. Throughout the last 20 years, the club has grown. There are now over 100 members and the club has its own meeting room in the lower level of the East Berlin Area Community Center where club meetings, seminars, and Tuesday night carving are held.
Extra Mile Award
The Extra Mile award is given annually to a club member or members who have gone out of the way to make the club a better organization. Names of any active club member or members are submitted to the President by another club member. The elected officers then make the final decision based upon the nominations.
